Don't miss Aunsoft Thanksgiving Day Promotion

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 is the new HD camera in 2010 with two kinds of recording videos formats. The AVCHD camera can not only store videos in Motion JPEG compression in .mov format, but also saves the movies in AVCHD Lite .mts format. The DMC-ZS7 records longer videos with AVCHD Lite format than the conventional Motion JPEP format. What's more, the AVCHD Lite format is captured with 1280x720 in high definitions, and the Motion JPEG format is captured in standard definition 848x480, 640 x 480 or 320 x 240.

To enjoy the 720p HD videos on computer, we shall use the AVCHD Lite format instead of Motion JPEG. However, after transferring the AVCHD Lite .mts files from DMC-ZS7 to computer hard drive, you may find the HD videos do not play on Windows laptop. But MP4 format is compatible to most computers. It is recommended that you use Panasonic AVCHD Lite converter to transcode 720p MTS to 720p MP4 for playback on computer. Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter is the best Panasonic AVCHD Lite converter with fast conversion.

Here I would like to demonstrate the quick steps to make it easy to enjoy 720p videos on Windows computer.

Step 1. Load Panasonic AVCHD Lite videos to Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter.
Run Aunsoft Video Converter as the Panasonic MTS to MP4 converter, and click the "Add" button to load .mts videos.

Step 2. Choose WMV output format.
Click the "Format" option, and choose Common Video > H.264 Video (*.mp4) as output format, and the Panasonic AVCHD Lite converter will transcode MTS to H.264 MP4 with original video resolution 1280x720.

Step 3. Convert Panasonic AVCHD Lite to MP4.
Click the convert button under the preview window, the conversion from Panasonic 720p MTS to MP4 in H.264 codec starts immediately, and the output videos will be compatible to all media players on Windows like Windows Media Player, VLC media player, QuickTime Player.

For Mac users using Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard, you can use the Mac Panasonic AVCHD Lite converter to transcode MTS to MOV for playback on QuickTime Player.

BlackBerry PlayBook vs Apple iPad 2 vs Galaxy Tab Specs Comparison

When there are comparison between BlackBerry PlayBook and Apple iPad, there are voices saying that it is not letimate, as iPad has been available for several monthes, while BlackBerry PlayBook will be available in the first quarter of 2011. Well, even though we do not have the exact specifications about iPad 2 yet, there are rumors saying iPad 2 will be launched in April 2011 or the first quarter like BlackBerry PlayBook for the competing.

Since we have compared Galaxy Tab vs Apple iPad, we will take the three recent tablet PCs with specifications compared according to 5 factors like size, camera, storage, multitasking and media support.

While BlackBerry PlayBook and Galaxy Tab provide 7-inch display with 1024x600 resolution, Apple CEO Steve Jobs suggested that iPad 2 would not be 7-inch tablet, considering the 7" tablet is not sufficient for great tablet apps. However, there are rumor saying that iPad 2 will be thinner.

Samsung Galaxy Tab is equipped with 1.3MP front camera and 3MP rear camera, and RIM announced BlackBerry PlayBook with advanced 3MP front camera and 5MP rear camera for conference calls. The camera on iPad has been a hot topic when comparing to other tablet PCs. And iPad 2 will be equipped with camera too. The camera on tablet PC will be a must then.

Samsung Galaxy Tab is available with 16GB / 32GB internal storage, and expansion storage with microSD. Apple iPad provides 16GB / 32GB / 64GB as internal storage, but no expandable storage. BlackBerry PlayBook supplies 16GB / 32GB / 64GB storage, and the expandable storage support is unknown yet.

It is confirmed that Samsung Galaxy Tab with Android 2.2 and BlackBerry PlayBook with BB Tablet OS support multitasking. Apple iPad with iOS3 does not support multitasking and the iOS4 now is available for multitasking. There is no doubt that iPad 2 will support multitasking. The processor will be upgraded in iPad 2.

Media support:
While BlackBerry PlayBook and Galaxy Tab support recording 1080p HD videos, there is no problem for the playback of 1080p videos. So far with the iPhone 4 cameras, the HD video will be up to 720p, not 1080p. Thus, iPad 2 may record up to 720p videos.

While there is Flash 10.1 support in Samsung Galaxy Tab and BlackBerry PlayBook, it is convenient to browse web content and Flash videos. The built-in player of BlackBerry PlayBook supports H.264, MPEG-4 and WMV files. Samsung Galaxy Tab seems to support more media formats with DivX AVI. The media support for iPad 2 might be similar to the current version with H.264 and MPEG-4 for .mp4, .m4v and .mov.

If you would like to play more videos and movies on the tablet PC like BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Apple iPad (2), you can use Aunsoft Video Converter as tablet PC video converter to convert the unsupported formats to MP4 for smooth video playback. For example, you will play MKV and TiVo on BlackBerry PlayBook, iPad 2, and Galaxy Tab in ease.

Basic Information about Editing Panasonic HDC-TM700K on Mac

I was asked recently with some questions about editing videos shot by Panasonic HDC-TM700K. Here I would like to share with you my experience about the movie formats and editing with Panasonic HDC-TM700.

Background Information:
Some may face problem when trying to import Panasonic HDC-TM700 MTS videos to editing applications like Avid Media Composer 5 Academic, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or even the Mac Kdenlive.

You may notice that Panasonic HDC-TM700 can record 1080/60p (Full HD 1920 x 1080, 60 Progressive Recording) videos with 60 images per second. And it is claimed that the 1080p Progressive Recording is to record smooth, highly detailed images with a moving picture resolution that exceeds Full HD from the Panasonic HDC-TM700K official site.

Question 1. How does the 1080p recording exceed Full HD?
- Answer: The current AVCHD-compliant standard formats include 1080/30p, 1080/24p, 1080/60i with up to 17Mbps. The 1080/60p (for American model) and 1080/50p (for European and Asian model) actually records more images per second, making high quality videos.

Panasonic HDC-TM700's Recording Format:
1080 / 60p : MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (original format)
HA / HG / HX / HE : MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD standard compliant)

More details about Panasonic HDC-TM700 are available at: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/shop/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/3-MOS-High-Def-Camcorders/model.HDC-TM700K.O_11002_7000000000000005702

Question 2. How to get the 1080p videos editable?
- Answer: You can free download Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac as the Panasonic TM700 AVCHD converter, and convert 1080/60p .mts to .mov for editing on Mac with Avid MC5, FCP, FCE, FCS, Adobe PPro.

To import AVCHD files from camcorder or SD card to Aunsoft MTS/M2TS Converter for Mac, just click the Add button and browse the .mts files from AVCHD > BDMV > STREAM.

The recommended output format is HD Video > H.264 HD Video(*.mov), and you can also choose Common Video > MOV - QuickTime(*.mov) as output format. Before the conversion, you can also set the video bit rate, adjust the frame rate to 60 for high quality video output.

Below is the screenshot of the Panasonic TM700 AVCHD converter.

No Mac user should have to go thru hoops to get Sling HD streaming working on their Mac after spend copy iPad to Mac ing $299 for a Sling Pro HD! Since I also use Windows, I can tell you the free SlingPlayer for Windows is far better than the old Mac version, not only for HD streaming but for the way it works with the guide and the UI.
